What r barbituates and what r common names for instance is a valium one?

Valium is a member of the benzodiazapine family: xanax, ativan, klonopin, halcion, rohypnol, temazepam, etc. Barbiturates are basically old fashioned sleeping pills and they've been around and abused for a long time. Valium is NOT a barbiturate. Benzodiazapine. I was on barbiturates years ago because I am an epileptic. I no longer take them anymore as it caused a toxic reaction in my system.

valium is not a barbituate. if you are looking for an answer about a drug test or something....valium is a benzodiapine (they stay in your system for up to 3-6 weeks) an example of a barbituate would be phenobarb, something used for seizures.
Reply:Valium is a benzodiazepine. Phenobarbital is the most commonly prescribed barbiturate...used for seizure disorders in dogs most commonly. Fioricet also has a barbiturate as one ingredient...used for headaches
