Do people who have names similar to very common words get sick of thinking someone's calling them?

Maybe if your name is Kay, and you hear OK,

or similarly if you have a super-common name and you hear someone say your name and five people say "what".

Do people who have names similar to very common words get sick of thinking someone's calling them?
haha of couse!! my name is Kayla and in elementary school when we had to walk in lines in the hallways and we would turn corners or sumthin . . . the teacher wud say "ok, lets go" so i thot she was saying kayla go . . . but yeah also when people say mahkayla, anotber girl in my class., i always look . . .so yes it duz happen
Reply:I have a friend named Ann. She turns around every time someone says "and" or "an" and it drives her crazy.

My name is Sarah, which is a VERY common name at my high school. In our choral program alone we have like 10 people named Sarah. When our teacher calls role for the whole choral department, she has to say all the Sarahs' last names so we don't all say "here" to every one. It's so annoying when someone yells your name and you turn around and they're talking to someone else.
Reply:my name is Raina and when people say is raining or rain

or something i think theyre calling me.

lol dont ask why is says my name is sal,

i just dont feel comfortable posting my real name,

idk why
Reply:My name is Aids, so when people say they have AIDS I think they're dying of me. As a child I thought I was killing people and I tried to kill myself so it wouldn't happen anymore.
Reply:my name is jadiza and my language arts teacher's favorite tv show is star trek and he calls me jadzia but it doesnt bother me
Reply:I have a pretty uncommon name. Bo (yes spelled like that) but there is one other kid in my school named Beau and it gets annoying haha.
Reply:my name is chad. When i hear people call dad it is SOOOOOOO annoying because it sounds like they say chad. So yes that does happen.
Reply:My name is Kamilla but everyone call me Kamie, it really bothers me cause there are two girls in my class called Amy and Tamie and I never know when someone is calling me x) It's kinda annoying
Reply:ya those one syllable names are the worst for that

and you can hear things that sound like them all over the place.
Reply:Lol yeah, my name is Greg, and alot of the times when some one says great, im like what?

kinda annoying=)

2. Sleeping sickness

3. Malaria - one of 5 parasites that cause this disease in humans.

I don't think there are common names for these parasites.

Why are Brown and White common last names but Black isn't?

OK, this may seem like a funny rascist question but seriously! Was there some kind of equality bill passed about this last name? I know there is the occasional last name of Black, but how often is that?

Why are Brown and White common last names but Black isn't?
The surname of black, green, white, brown etc all come from medieval times before their were last names. You would call the person of your village "thomas the black" or "thomas the brown" to distinguish between people of the same geographical area who had the same name, by differentiating them by a description which described them (black vs brown hair). You could also differentiate them by the town they lived in (johanna of kingstown "kings-town", johanna redcliffe "red-cliff") or by geographical area's (eg bess kerr - kerr means swamp).

Brown and white are probably more common due to the fact that brown and white hair are more common (and brown eyes). As green eyes are less common in the general population, green eyes would have been an important characteristic to identify the particular person you would be looking for. Black hair although not uncommon, is not as prevalent as brown or white, which may explain why it isn't as popular a surname as brown or white.
Reply:I know several people who have the last name black. Also there are the actresses Karen Black and Shirley Temple Black, the comic actor Jack Black, and musician Clint Black.

I have relatives who are Green and know a family that is Blue. I have heard of Oranges, but have never heard of a Yellow, Red, Pink or Purple although I did meet a Mr. Stripe once and had an Aunt Dot. But Dot was her nickname and not her surname.

BACK TO YOUR QUESTION. There are quite a lot of people with the last name Black.
Reply:Do some research before you make claims like this. And, if you could choose a last name--and many freed slaves had to do just that--would you pick Black, knowing that there are many people like you who would hold that against them?
Reply:Jacob Black, Billy Black, Ephirium (sp?) Black. Read Twilight.
Reply:Who says it's not.

I know plenty of people with the last name Black.

Also extended names such as Blacksmith and Blackshere

Perhaps you should broaden your horizons.
Reply:Hellooooo Sirius Black, don't you read lol

I'm just kidding, but to answer you're I have no clue.

I do know someone with the last name Blackman.
Reply:I've heard the last name Black....Its not a race thing. Its just a name, the color that it means has nothing to do with anything.
Reply:I got some people in my family with the last name Black alot anyway it may just be were u at
Reply:My Great Grandmother's maiden name was Black.

You could ask the same for red, blue, yellow or orange? why aren't they common?
Reply:Black is a common last name.
Reply:Black actually is a common last name... I have people with the name 'Black' in my family.
Reply:Jack Black????
Reply:my boyfriends name is brown but he is brown lol i know what u are talking about it is funny lol
Reply:What about Jack Black??
Reply:What about yellow, LOL or #FF33ae?

Scientific or common name for spicy lettuce?

Does anyone know the scientific "Latin" or common name for spicy lettuce? Know where I can buy some seeds?

Scientific or common name for spicy lettuce?
well if you can't find it, i guess theres always kimchi. too spicy for my taste though
Reply:You mean, like, peppery salad greens? Like arugula (or rocket)?

I've never heard of "spicy lettuce." But if that's what they call it where you live, ask at a produce stand, grocery store, something like that. If you eat it at a restaurant or somebody's house, they might also know the name for it.

Local names can vary quite a bit, so you'd probably need to ask around where you live.
Reply:Common name is spicy lettuce.

Do you think the name Jace or Jayce will become a common name in the next few years?

I have a 3 mo. old son named Jayce and I don't know anyone else who is named Jayce or has a kid named Jayce. Are there a lot Jayce/Jace's out there? Or is this a really uncommon and unique name?

Do you think the name Jace or Jayce will become a common name in the next few years?
my ex has a daughter named jaycee, it was the 1st i herd it till now, so ya i guess it will be a little more common
Reply:An old friend who had a baby around the same time I did (6yrs ago) named her son Jayce. I think it is super cute and I really like it. It would be nice to see names like this become more common, Im so sick of Jaden and Aiden and Braiden and ugh.
Reply:I think it is a bit uncommon but not unheard of. I think it is a name that can stand alone but is not crazy.

I know of two little boys named Jayce!
Reply:I have a co-worker who had a baby in Novemeber, his daughter's name is Tanner Jase. That is the second time i heard it. the first time was in a lifetime movie
Reply:All J names have always been quite popular. Jayce is quite unique, at this point. But so was Jaydon 5 years ago... now everyone and their brother names their kid Jaydon.
Reply:Yes, because I know someone casually who has a toddler named that, and I've read it in the local newspaper baby announcements a couple of times - with different spellings.
Reply:Owing to the recent Eastenders character, I'd suggest the name will become very common. In every sense of the word.
Reply:i think itll be common a class or two down from your son (school wise)

its barely starting to pop up here on baby name lists

its a very nice name
Reply:I think it will be more common. It is a nice name though.
Reply:I always thought it was short for Jason.
Reply:Yes I think that they will get more common

Why is Schmitt such a common name in Germany ?

or Schmidt, Schmit etc. I know it means the same as Smith, but why so common?

my maiden name

Why is Schmitt such a common name in Germany ?
Most, if not all Schmitts, originated in Germany, before they adopted the name Schmitt they had no last name and could have come from just about anywhere in Europe.

Schmidt

Perhaps the most ancient of all descriptive surnames, and in its various forms the most popular in the Western world, this is a name of great honour, and probably not what it seems. Recorded in the spellings of Schmidt, Schmit, Shmit, Schmitt (German), de Smid and Smid (Flemish), Smidt, Smed, Smut and Smed (Scandanavian) Szmidt and Szmyt (Polish) Smid (Czech) Schmidt, Szmidt, Shmidman etc (Askenazic), Smith, Smyth (British) and in approximately one thousand four hundred other variations from Grensmidt to Brooksmith to Schmiedal to Smuts, all are forms of the ancient 'smitan', meaning 'to smite'. The conventional wisdom is to say that this means that a schmid(t) is or was originally 'a worker in iron'. This is open to question. The word 'smitan' is so ancient that it predates all known written history. It appears in all European languages. We believe that the original meaning of 'Schmid/Smith' is a soldier or warrior, but perhaps one who wore armour, which he would have had to repair. This would lead to an association of ideas. What is certain is that in the Medieval period every branch of 'schmitting' had its own distinctive terminology. An ancient coat of arms from Rothenburg in Bavaria, has the blazon of a red field charged with two battle hammers in saltire, and a tree branch palewise. Amongst the earliest German recordings of the surname are probably those of Henricus Schmitt of Rostock in 1287 and Nicolas Smedeke of Greifswald in 1388. Niclas Schmidt (also recorded as Schmid), is registered at Athens, Green County, New York, on April 26th 1739. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Johannes Schmitt, which was dated 1268, recorded in Hamburg, North Germany, during the reign of Emperor Alphonso 1 of the German Empire (1257 - 1273).
Reply:Every village needed a smith, but usually had only one. That made it a perfect descriptor - there might be a dozen men called John in the village, but there would only be one "John Smith". Names meaning "Smith" in the local language are the commonest single type in Europe, e.g.

Smith - English

Schmidt - German

Kovacs - Hungarian

Ferrier - French

Herrero - Spanish

- and so on.
Reply:When folks had to pick a last name many of them chose Schmitt. Many names derived from the area in which they lived or what they did for a living. Schmitt is an occupational name for a black smith.

Schmitt were blacksmiths

Muller was a miller

Keller meant cellar meaning where they worked

Fischer were fisherman

Zimmerman were carpenter

bauer were farmer

Here is the link to the history of the name;

http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp/sId./...
Reply:The last name of Smith or Schmidt refers to blacksmiths the black is dropped and the Smith remains. As to why there are so many in Germany that is something I would guess it has to do with all the blacksmiths that came out of there to populate the world with Smiths; )
Reply:Back in the olden days, people often didn't have last names, so at some point a person's profession was added onto their name. Hence names like Smith (blacksmith), Miller, Baker, etc.

...SO Anthony is an old man's name is it? I thought it was better than boring COMMON NAMES but whatever?

...? Would you be ashamed of Anthony as your boyfreinds name really?

...SO Anthony is an old man's name is it? I thought it was better than boring COMMON NAMES but whatever?
why does it matter and why should i be ashamed? i would love my boyfriend for his personality not for his name...
Reply:There is nothing wrong with the name Anthony and as Anthony Hutton won Big brother there are a few new mums out there that have named there new son Anthony - A name is a name, perhaps a nickname would be better or shorten it to Ant....
Reply:J . LO wouldn't.. hers' is Marc Anthony. I wouldn't consider the name anthony anyhow.
Reply:who cares about names?

and anthony isnt an old name
Reply:no and antgony is not a old people name.

i know a couple but they r kinda all losers.lol

Reply:It may be a strange concept to the younger generation, but how about using a book? The Flora of the British Isles by Rev. Keeble Martin is a superb starting point. I am sure you could pick it up from Amazon quite cheaply in its paperback form. The author spent years travelling Britain personally drawing and painting every common species of wild flower, an amazing task.
Reply:ALL wild flowers - in which country?

Why don'y you go to your local/college library or bookshop and get a book for identification of wild flowers so you can see together the following:

- the picture (%26amp; description, habitat etc)

- the common name (wherever you are)

- the Latin name

Surely in your course, it's not just knowing Latin names that is important, but knowing which flowers they relate to?! Context is important.
Reply:Try www.edirectory.co.uk/chilternseeds

They're a mail order seed nursery which specialises in wild flowers and lists them with their latin names.

(my name)

However, I wouldn't recommend it because it's too uncommon. Think carefully before naming your child something unusual. Being named Elaine has been nothing but an annoyance for me. Who would think that Elaine, a name that is not extremely uncommon, could cause so many spelling and pronunciation problems. I've have been called Eileen or Ellen, countless times, especially by teachers who are too lazy too actually read the name on their paper. They see the E and the L and don't even bother to read the rest of the name. Seriously, I don't know what their problem is. Well anyways, it's annoying to have people constantly spelling my name wrong. I'd recommend giving your child a more common name. I've always wished I was named something more common, a name people can easily pronounce and spell. If you name your daughter one of the names you listed above, I'm certain she will complain about being named such a rare name.
Reply:I absolutely LOVE Eliana. Was considering that one. I think that one is a great name because it's still sophisticated for when she grows up, but can be Ellie when she's little, or even Elle.

Emery is super unique, and I love that one too. It's a very pretty name, and can also have the nicknames Em or Emmy or Emma, etc..

I'm not too fond of the "Ev..." names for some reason. Have you considered Emerson/ Emmersyn/ Emmersen? It's similar to Emery, and would have the same shorter versions of the name too.
Reply:Emery - is a board you file your nails on

Evada - is just made up isn't is? it's like Nevada spelt wrong

Eliana - is a not bad name - pretty

Evanna - is Ivana spelt wrong

Evienne - is bottled water spelt wrong

Elandra - sounds like a climbing plant

Evangeline - could be shortened to Eva, Evan, Angie, Lina - I like the options it gives

Evianna - a bit like the bottle water spelt wrong again!

My fave "E" names are Erin, Eden and Ellis or how about...

Esme

Edana

Elinor

Elise

Estelle
Reply:I think my favourite would have to be Eliana, its a really pretty name.

I think they are all nice names though!!!

Also, I know Emily is a common name but I have a friend called Emily who likes to spell her name Emma-lee. I think it makes it unique!!!

Lastly, if you want help to find anymore names you could try this website:

http://www.unique-baby-names.org/baby-gi...

I hope that helped!!!
Reply:Emery is lovely! Very unusual! Emery Eveda is dead pretty.

The best advice I can give is go on to www.gurgle.com and click "baby namer". It has HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of names!! Then, in the enter name here box put in the letter "e". Thats what I did and I found:

Ebony...Effie...Etta...Eilis...Eleni.....

There's tonnes more and it also has meanings and origins.

I like Ebony - sooo cute!!

And Eleni is very sophistocated.

Good luck!!
Reply:Elaine is a cute name and you could nick-name her Ele. Elen is also a very classy name. Just dont name her something to weird names or she will end up hating her name and being mad at you. Just a warning because I know a girls named Evangeline and everyone says it wrong and she hates it.
Reply:I like Emery and Evangeline, how about Evie, Effie, Ebony, Elise, Elisa, Elia, Emilia, Emolia, Elsa, Elysa, Elyse, Emele, Evelyn, Elisha, Enya, Emme, Estelle, Eris, Erla, Esme, Etta, Etoile, Evelia, Evania, Evan, Eurphrates, Evonne, Eydie, Ezra, Elexa, Elena, Eleanor, Elle, Ella, Earla, Eathel, Ebonique, Echelle, Ebram Edda, Edalina, Eloise, Eirinn, Ekoda

I hoped I helped you, I picked out as many names as I could possibly think of! And yes, they are all real names!
Reply:Out of the ones you listed I would go with Eliana. It has a great meaning and the name "Elly" is so cute for short.

Here are some others to consider that I like as well....

Emalise or Emmalise (you could call her Emmy or Emy for short)

Emiana, Emaline

Ellia

Elena

Elysa (which can be spelled these ways too - Elyssa, Elysah, Eliza)
Reply:I LOVE Emery. Also, my cousin named her little girl Ellory, which I'd never heard before...I don't know if she made it up or not. But it's cute, if you're looking for something uncommon.

Oh, I thought of another one...I met an Ellis the other day. You could call her Ellie. I've also liked Elsa ever since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Reply:Emery is my favorite out of the list it is different and i dont know anyone else with that name if you werent going for less common names i would go for Emma and you can pair that up with a lot of stuff like:

Emma-Kate

Emma-Grace

or

Emma-Nicole
Reply:Evelyn is pretty, as well.

And it's really funny, before I clicked on your question, I thought, what about Evangeline, and you listed it!

I love love love that name, and think it is so beautiful, unique, feminine, and really strong.

Most J names are strong or long or odd sounding coming behind another name

How would i locate a person that has a common name?? looking for my daughters dad..?

How would i locate a person that has a common name?? looking for my daughters dad..?
Zabasearch.com is one of the best free people finders.

http://www.zabasearch.com/
Reply:You can put an ad in the news paper of the city where he was last, he might still be in that city and read the ad. If you're lucky you might find relatives and contact him through them.

If you had his SIN # even better can find just about anyone if you have that.

Otherwise contact a private detective, or there is book, you can get about finding people, sorry can't remember the name of it but Maury Povich had the author on his show a few times, I believe so did Montell.

Hope that helps a bit.
